Neuralink is building a fully integrated, high-bandwidth brain machine interface (BMI). This device will allow direct communication with neurons located at more than 1,000 sites within the brain. We will describe the components of this BMI — including micron-scale electrode "threads", integrated electronics, and a robotic neurosurgical device — and how they address the key engineering challenges in building a scalable BMI. We will also discuss applications for this new technology
